POWA Screening, 16th June, 2024

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

POWAs unbroken string of weeks without voting continues this week, but that doesn’t mean that our lineup changes. In fact, this week brings POWAs final screening of our Action & Sports series Lycoris Recoil! So while it will be a little while before we vote on a replacement for it, now would be a good time to start considering what series should fill its place in the coveted Action & Sports slot!

Why will it take a while to get replaced, though?

First, the weekend after this screening, on the 23rd of June, will feature this year’s AMV Spectacular! This will take place over our screening break, bolstered by the extra time granted by delaying a new Action & Sports series.

But the AMV Spectacular needs YOU to submit AMVs! If you are just tearing at the bit to submit your favourite AMV, its easy as can be. Go here to go to the submission form – instructions inside will guide the way. And if you want to discuss picks ahead of time, or have any questions, the best place will be on our Discord – links to joining which can be found on our website.

The full event for the AMV Spectacular, as well as that weekends screening, will go up next week as normal.

Finally, a note regarding Supanova Perth this year; as is custom, POWA will not be screening on the weekend of the 29th/30th so as to not interfere with member’s desire to attend the convention.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting rooms of the City of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM – and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

POWA Screening, 9th June, 2024

Back at the anime again this week now that our library meeting room has finished its renovations!

Last week we ran a board games day for the POWA weekend in place of our regular screening – thanks to those who came along and made that day fun, by the way! – so to recap what happened last time we screened our anime lineup…

Some voting happened – our Drama, “Chihayafuru Season 2” and our Mature, Horror & Thriller “xxxHolic” both reached their halfway, episode 12 votes, and our Fantasy “Why Raeliana Ended up at the Dukes Mansion” reached its second, final, episode 8 vote, with each and every series passing their respective votes – continuing “Chihyafuru”, “xxxHolic” and “Raeliana” in our lineup – “Raeliana” continuing to its finale!

This weekend doesn’t bring us any voting, however, as our Action & Sports “Lycoris Recoil” is now in its final episodes, not needing a vote at this point.

POWA Board Games Day, June 2nd, 2024

Location: Joondalup Library, Ground Floor Meeting Room

While POWAs regular screening space gets a new lick of paint, an opportunity for a Board Games day has arisen!

In place of our regular screening this week, POWA breaks out the boxes of boards for all of us to enjoy. Still meeting up at the Joondalup Library, we instead keep to the ground floor meeting rooms this time around for a larger, better lit space for us to all bring and play our favorite games – and while the committee will naturally bring their personal collection, we highly encourage anyone and everyone to bring their own games, of any type or fashion, for the group to enjoy. Whether it’s your family copy of Monopoly or your favorite 4-hour-long German card game, or anything in between, you are welcome to add to the pile!

That said, there is only a little bit of structure for this day – meaning that people are encouraged to pick out games from the pile that they want to play, so we offer no promises for what specific games will get played on the day. If you want to organise a specific game for the day though, why not start a discussion on our Discord? A joining link, for those who are yet to do so, can be found on our website’s “About” page.

There is a little bit of structure though; during the last chunk of the event, a session of the Alien: the Roleplaying Game is being organised. Thankfully, the open-ended nature of the game means that you do not need to reserve a place ahead of time, nor provide any dice, papers or pens – everything you need will be provided, so if the mood only strikes you on the day, simply ask to join in. The Alien TTRPG is scheduled to begin setup around 3:30pm, hopefully to end before the doors close at the library at 5:00pm.

Entry for this event will follow our regular screening lines, being $4 for members, and $5 for guests, though if this happens to be your first time at POWA, it will be free. As mentioned above, this meet will take place not in our regular room, but in the ground floor meeting room – if you don’t want to look at the map of the library, the ground floor meeting room is quite literally located directly below the upstairs meeting rooms – they share a floor/ceiling! The event will start at the same time as the Libraries’ opening – 1:00pm, and will conclude before the Library closes at 5:00pm.
