POWA Summer Seasonal Preview, 28th July, 2024

Clear Blue Skies, trips to the beach and a dry heat abound! Somewhere else than locally, sure, but that does mean that it is just about time for the Summer Seasonal Preview!

So POWA is taking it upon ourselves to bring to you a selection of what shows are airing this season – and there’s always a variety of shows for us to bring forward – everything from multi-lingual Tsundere RomComs to whatever that one Deer show with that earworm opening song could be best summarized as, as well as a few fantasy Isekais for some variety!

What shows, specifically, we are planning on screening is something we like to keep close to the chest, but there will surely be something to entertain anyone and everyone who arrives!

And, as always, after the screening itself ends, POWA moves onto Discord to keep the anime going with even more shows – ones that we couldn’t fit into our schedule at the library itself! This “After Party” will take place in one of our Voice Chat rooms, with a shared screen to assist those who want to sync up their own streams and watch along. If you want to join in on this After Party, join our Discord through the “About” page on our website, POWAClub.com!

The schedule for the shows to be screened at the After Party will be made available at the conclusion of the in-person event, allowing people a chance to get their streaming services active again.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

We hope to see you there!

POWA Board Games Day, June 2nd, 2024

Location: Joondalup Library, Ground Floor Meeting Room

While POWAs regular screening space gets a new lick of paint, an opportunity for a Board Games day has arisen!

In place of our regular screening this week, POWA breaks out the boxes of boards for all of us to enjoy. Still meeting up at the Joondalup Library, we instead keep to the ground floor meeting rooms this time around for a larger, better lit space for us to all bring and play our favorite games – and while the committee will naturally bring their personal collection, we highly encourage anyone and everyone to bring their own games, of any type or fashion, for the group to enjoy. Whether it’s your family copy of Monopoly or your favorite 4-hour-long German card game, or anything in between, you are welcome to add to the pile!

That said, there is only a little bit of structure for this day – meaning that people are encouraged to pick out games from the pile that they want to play, so we offer no promises for what specific games will get played on the day. If you want to organise a specific game for the day though, why not start a discussion on our Discord? A joining link, for those who are yet to do so, can be found on our website’s “About” page.

There is a little bit of structure though; during the last chunk of the event, a session of the Alien: the Roleplaying Game is being organised. Thankfully, the open-ended nature of the game means that you do not need to reserve a place ahead of time, nor provide any dice, papers or pens – everything you need will be provided, so if the mood only strikes you on the day, simply ask to join in. The Alien TTRPG is scheduled to begin setup around 3:30pm, hopefully to end before the doors close at the library at 5:00pm.

Entry for this event will follow our regular screening lines, being $4 for members, and $5 for guests, though if this happens to be your first time at POWA, it will be free. As mentioned above, this meet will take place not in our regular room, but in the ground floor meeting room – if you don’t want to look at the map of the library, the ground floor meeting room is quite literally located directly below the upstairs meeting rooms – they share a floor/ceiling! The event will start at the same time as the Libraries’ opening – 1:00pm, and will conclude before the Library closes at 5:00pm.

We hope to see you there!

The schedule for the event:

1:00 – Library opens, board games start

3:30 – Alien: The Roleplaying Game starts being organised

5:00 – Library closes (So we have to be outside by this point!)

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Film Outing, May 31st, 2024

Event Location: Event Cinemas Innaloo

Anime Film outings come out frequently these days, because POWA is back at the cinema for a screening of “Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle”!

POWA was polled, and a time and location was chosen; the session we will attend for this meet-up will be the 7:00pm session on May 31st, at Event Cinemas Innaloo.

We are also happy to offer to POWA members passes for entry, as Sony – distributor, above Crunchyroll – has provided us with two Admit 2 passes!

POWA cannot guarantee a spot in the theatre, so it is recommended that you arrive early enough to find our group, secure a seat in the cinema, as well as be early enough to purchase any food, drink or snacks you would want from the Candy Bar. If one arrives too late, one might simply miss out on the screening, after all.

“Shoyo Hinata joins Karasuno High’s volleyball club to be like his idol, a former Karasuno player known as the “Little Giant.” But, Hinata soon finds that he must team up with his middle school nemesis, Tobio Kageyama. Their clashing styles turn into a surprising weapon, but can they beat their rival Nekoma High in the highly anticipated “Dumpster Battle,” the long awaited ultimate showdown between two opposing underdog teams?”

We hope to see you there!
