Our screenings open at 1PM and run to 5PM at Joondalup Library, Meeting Room 1/2 every Sunday (unless otherwise specified) and our schedule includes exciting series from various genres.

4:45PM – Pack Up

All of the shows we screen are screened in their original – usually Japanese – language with English subtitling.

We are a democratic bunch at POWA. Every fourth episode we vote on keeping a series in our lineup. If it’s voted out, the following week enables us to vote for a show to replace it.

POWA Screening, 20th July, 2025

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

Did everyone enjoy the Summer seasonal preview? It seems like the general mood is that sleeper hits might abound this season!

But for the moment, this event is… mostly… about our regular lineup.

To recap last time we screened – our Comedy, Kakushigoto had its second (And last) vote, which it passed, and the tonal opposite, our Mature, Horror & Thriller, Vinland Saga, reached its 12 episode and its roughly half-way point, got voted on, and passed. This week to come brings no voting, though… but it is the Finale of Part 1 of SpyxFamily! Since it aired in two separate halves, POWA treats it as two separate seasons – meaning that we get to vote on a new Action & Sports series – or to continue SpyxFamily, should that be what the POWA membership wishes!

Now, there’s a bit of a bonus this week – due to unforeseen circumstances, POWA was unable to host any kind of post-seasonal-preview “After Party” that is usually hosted online, after POWA’s seasonal preview screenings, where we group watch some more of the shows we couldn’t watch at POWA itself. After a quick poll, that “After Party” will be hosted after this week’s event instead – if you’re interested, make sure you join our Discord ahead of time and join the shared stream – no need to buy your own way into a streaming service if you don’t want to!

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting rooms of the City of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM – and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

POWA Summer Seasonal Preview Screening, 13th July, 2025

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

Despite the fact that it happens to be about 9 degrees as this event is written, it is Summer! In Japan, Which means a new season of anime! And being warm, if you’re not in Perth.

But Perth does get anime – anime which we are bringing to everyone at this week’s Seasonal Preview screening! This season brings a large variety of anime, with everything from lost Raccoon dogs in the rain to Steampunk Victorian London eldritch horror, and quite likely a few shows that could be considered in between those two extremes.

So while we won’t release the names of the specific shows we are gonna watch this weekend until the moment we watch them, there is quite likely at least something from this season which would entertain.

Everyone have a good Supanova weekend? Us too/neither!

Well, distractions aside, its back to POWA this weekend, this time with a brand new show!

As our Historical series “The Apothecary Diaries” left our lineup the time before last, last time we voted for a new Drama series – and what was picked is the chilled out comfy series “Bartender: The Glass of God”!

POWA continues that series this week, while also having a check in on our Comedy series “Kakushigoto”, which reaches episode 8, and our Mature/Horror/Thriller series “Vinland Saga”, which reaches its 12th. Always check your membership before trying to vote, and have a say on our ongoing lineup!
