Category: Screenings

Thanks to those who attended POWA’s first GM last weekend, and more thanks to those who attended last weekends’ winter 2024 Seasonal Preview!

This week returns us to our regular screening schedule with a few notable additions; Last regular screening POWA voted in two news shows – xxxHolic, show with a rather noodly protagonist, in our new Mature, Horror & Thriller series, and the return of Chihayafuru with Season 2, with a less noodly but no less intense protagonist, in our Drama slot!

This week will come with its own notable addition, too – a new Action & Sports series! Yes, it’s finally time to properly fill our line-up as we vote to fill the final remaining open spot.

One point of note to those playing catch up; last week, due to issues regarding the scheduled shows, POWA watched two episodes of our Slice of Life/Romance Super Cub, bringing the episode count further forward than you might be aware. Double check the schedule below to make sure you are up to date!

Please be aware of this important fact:

As mentioned at the POWA GM and seasonal preview screening, POWA has raised the price of entry and on select shop goods, to better reflect the current increase in operation and supply costs of the club. These prices changes go into effect this screening, and entry and raffle tickets costs have been adjusted as follows:

Entry for POWA members will now be $5.

Entry for public Guests will now be $6, but your first visit to POWA will remain free.

All entry will continue to come with a raffle ticket and a chance of winning the raffle prize.

Thank you for understanding. Please feel free to contact the POWA Committee on any of the usual channels with feedback.

It’s always winter somewhere, but in this case, its winter in Japan – meaning that it’s a new season of anime for us all!

So, this week, it’s time to put out regular schedule on temporary hold while POWA has a look at a number of shows that have been airing in Japan for the winter 2024 season.

If you’ve not taken the opportunity to watch the shows already, or have watched them and want a good place to rewatch and discuss them, POWA is a great place to do so – from the fluffiest of fluffy Isekais, to Dungeon Crawling Culinary Culture, to quiet romances and mature monster slaying, this season will have a bit of everything for everyone.

After POWA’s in-person screening, we will move online to host a POWA After-Party on POWA’s Discord rooms, featuring more of the many, many shows POWA was unable to fit into the schedule in-room. If you are yet to join POWA’s discord, but want to, join the Discord with the following link: discord.gg/jF4A4tn

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

1:00PM – Library Doors Open

1:30PM – Winter 2024 Anime – Episode 1

2:00PM – Winter 2024 Anime – Episode 1

2:30PM – Winter 2024 Anime – Episode 1

3:00PM – Break & Raffle Draw

3:15PM – Winter 2024 Anime – Episode 1

3:45PM – Winter 2024 Anime – Episode 1

That’s right, everyone, POWA is back after our holiday break!

This week brings us two new shows hot off the presses, as it were. A new Drama and a new Mature, Horror & Thriller series, in fact, to replace our outgoing shows Irina: Vampire Cosmonaut and Basilisk, respectively! So, double check your membership is up to date so have a say in our new line-up.

You may notice that there isn’t a new Fantasy vote, though, despite us finishing Astra – Lost in Space at the second-to-last screening last year. That is because voting in three brand new series would simply take too long for a single screening; instead, we will have something else on to bring us up to five shows for the night. Those who were present at the Christmas screening might have an idea as to how that would work – that is, if you’ve not Erased how we picked a series from your mind.

Of note in the coming weeks, though; on the 27^th of January, the Saturday after this screening, our first General Meeting of the year will be held. We suggest that all those that are able to join us on Discord do so to have a look at what 2024 will have in store for POWA – more details on time and place to follow soon.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free!

We hope to see you there!
