POWA Winter 2023 Seasonal Preview, 29th January 2023

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

POWA’s back with another look at anime currently airing in Japan!

Six brand new shows from the winter 2023 anime season. The perfect time to check out POWA while seeing the highs and lows of the season. What will you be watching?

We’ll continue the fun on our Discord server in a post-screening after-party, with watchalongs for shows that we couldn’t get to in the screening. Check out POWA’s Discord here.

On our Discord, we’ll be holding our first quarterly General Meeting of 2023 the day before this screening. Any members interested in the running of the club and future plans and events should join the Discord chat room we set up for Saturday, 28th January at 3PM. Please contact a Committee member if you would like to know more about this process.

Our screening this past Sunday, January 22nd 2023 received a lower than expected turnout, so we did not watch our regularly scheduled lineup. So if you missed out on this screening, you did not actually miss out on any shows! While this coming week is our Seasonal Preview for Winter 2023, the week after will resume with the schedule initially proposed for January 22nd 2023. Event link here

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

POWA Screening and SGM, 22nd January 2023

POWA’s regular weekly screenings continue with our second screening of 2023!

There was a good turnout for our first week back, so thank you to all guests and members as we continued our exciting lineup of anime. We started 2023 with a heavy round of voting on four shows. All shows survived the vote so they will continue as is.

After our screening this Sunday, January 22nd 2023, POWA will hold a Special General Meeting in order to vote for or against a set of proposed amendments to the POWA Constitution. You must be an active POWA member to attend the meeting and vote in the motion, so be sure to check your membership is up to date before the end of the screening event. POWA SGM for Constitution Amendment 5.0 – January 22nd

After our screening this Sunday, January 22nd 2023, POWA will hold a Special General Meeting in order to vote for or against a set of proposed amendments to the POWA Constitution. You must be an active POWA member to attend the meeting and vote in the motion, so be sure to check your membership is up to date before the end of the screening event.

This will be the only motion of the meeting, and the changes will not be discussed in detail, so if you wish to vote, please go over the changes prior to the start of the SGM. These changes are focused on POWA attempting to become an incorporated entity as outlined in the official document INC: A guide for incorporated associations in Western Australia.

The majority of changes were gone over in detail in a previous post. Since we asked for feedback from members on these changes, one additional amendment has been made to the final draft of Constitution 5.0. This change is outlined below.

This section on page 3 of the Constitution:

  • 5. Special General Meetings
    • I. An extraordinary Special General Meeting outside of the quarterly meetings can be convened for any reason pertaining to club matters. The meeting may be called by either;
      i. The POWA Committee; or
      ii. 50% of POWA’s members.

Has been updated to:

  • 5. Special General Meetings
    • I. An extraordinary Special General Meeting outside of the quarterly meetings can be convened for any reason pertaining to club matters. The meeting may be called by either;
      i. The POWA Committee;
      ii. A single member of the POWA Committee; or
      iii. 50% of POWA’s members.
