POWA Anime Club Joondalup WA

POWA Goes back to the Cinemas to catch the direct film sequel for last year’s hit series “Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai”.

“Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl” is only at Innaloo cinemas one week only, and so we put the time we should see it to a poll – POWA Members have decided on Thursday, the 10th of October, and catching the 6:40PM Screening.

This time and screening will be on opening night for the film – so it must be stressed that the screening may be busy. We highly recommend arriving with plenty of time to spare so you can buy a ticket, as seats may not be available for late arrivals, as well as drinks or snacks, since the lines may be long.

POWA Cannot guarantee tickets or discounts for this screening, so if you arrive late you may well miss out entirely.

“In Fujisawa, where the skies are bright and the seas glisten, Sakuta Azusagawa is in his second year of high school. Blissful days with his girlfriend and upperclassman, Mai Sakurajima, are interrupted by the appearance of his first crush, Shoko Makinohara. For reasons unknown, he encounters two Shokos: one in middle school and another who has become an adult. As Sakuta finds himself helplessly living with Shoko, the adult Shoko leads him around by the nose, causing a huge rift in his relationship with Mai. In the midst of all of this, he discovers that the middle school Shoko is suffering from a grave illness and his chest scar begins to throb…”

POWA Double Movie Feature – Makoto Shinkai films, 12 October 2019.

Location: Building 3, room 201, ECU Mt Lawley

POWA Meets at ECU Mt Lawley to screen not one, but two short films by loved anime film director Makoto Shinkai – his 2007 film “5 Centimetres per Second” and his 2013 film “The Garden of Words”.

This free screening will be taking place in room 3.201 at ECU in Mt Lawley – not our usual screening location in Joondalup – with our doors opening at 6:30PM, and the screening to start at about 7PM. Both films are just about an hour in length each, so we expect the screening to have finished by approximately 9PM. Our usual selection of Drinks and Snacks will be available for purchase, as well as an opportunity to buy POWA Membership at a discounted $5 price.

“5 Centimetres Per Second is a tale of two people, Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari, who were close friends but gradually grow farther and farther apart as time moves on. They become separated because of their families yet continue to exchange contact in the form of letters. Yet as time continues to trudge on, their contact with one another begins to cease. Years pass and the rift between them grows ever larger. However, Takaki remembers the times they have shared together, but as life continues to unfold for him, he wonders if he would be given the chance to meet Akari again.”

“The Garden of Words is about Takao, a high school student who dreams of becoming a shoe designer, who decides to skip school one day in favour of sketching in a rainy garden. He has no idea how much his life will change when he encounters Yukino – who seems adrift in the world. Despite the difference in their ages, they strike up an unusual relationship that continues and evolves, with random meetings in the same garden on each rainy day.”

Screenings

Come to POWA Early, 29th September 2019

Location: ECU Joondalup Room 7.101

Back into our usual room this week; just in time for our monthly come early event!

A long time ago, back at the start of the year, we held something of a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament to celebrate the release of that game. This week, we re-enact that event with all the new characters and changes that updates to Smash have brought. Naturally, we invite everyone with a Nintendo Switch to bring along their console, since while we will be using the main projector, if you aren’t up for smash you can feel free to share something else with the group. As always, card games, board games and other such experiences are also welcomed. If you have something in particular you want to bring to the group, but need other people on board with, why not join our Discord and throw out a few feelers in our Gaming room?

After the early event, we will start our regular screening. Last week saw our Comedy, Hinamatsuri, pass its first vote, and our Mature, Parasyte – The Maxim, passed its fourth. Both shows continue this week, but still have quite a time until their final votes and subsequent final episodes.

This week brings us… no voting! Some of our shows are reaching their final episodes, however, so it will not be long before we start seeking suggestions for those.

This week we will be screening in room 7.101 at ECU Joondalup. Doors will open at 12:00 for our early event, with the regular screening to start at 3:00. Drinks, Snacks and POWA Membership will be available for purchase during the event and the screening.
