POWA Screening, January 26th, 2025

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

POWA returned last week to a scorcher of a Sunday – and is back this week for a thankfully less mind-and-body melting screening!

Voting abounds this week, as POWA votes on three of our shows – The Apothecary Diaries, Wisteria: Wand and Sword and 86 Part 2 are all up for vote this week – much like how last week we voted for the last time on Jujutsu Kaisen, which it passed, meaning its in our lineup until its final episode!

So, consider this another call to check that your membership is up-to-date, just in case you want a say in what stays in and what gets out!

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting rooms of the City of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM – and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

We hope to see you there!

This week’s schedule:

1:00 – Doors Open

1:30 – My Love STORY!! – Episode 18 (Slice of Life/Romance)

2:00 – The Apothecary Diaries – Episode 12 (Cultural/Historical, Voting!)

2:30 – Wistoria: Wand and Sword – Episode 8 (Fantasy, Voting!)

3:00 – Break and raffle

POWA Screening, January 19th, 2025

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

We’re baaaaaaaaaaaack!~

As promised, POWA returns for 2025 with our first regular screening of the year!

All of the shows we were watching in 2024 have made it across Crunchyroll’s library into 2025, so our lineup remains unaffected from the previous screening. If you are struggling to recall what we were watching, the shows and episodes are all listed below, so have a look and rewatch if that’s what you need to do.

That all said, as if to kick POWA off with a democratic bang, our Action & Sports series “Jujutsu Kaisen” has its final, episode 20, vote this screening. Remember that voting on a series is a right only given to those with active POWA membership, so make sure your cards are on hand and up to date!

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Film Outing, Sunday, 15th December

Location: HOYTS Cinema, Joondalup

To cap off the POWA 2024 year, its time for a final film outing!

Proving that we are currently in a particularly weird timeline, this time we are off to see the Anime entry into the universe of JRR Tolkien’s “Middle Earth” with “The War of the Rohirrim”!

POWA was polled, and a time chosen; this time, the screening chosen is the 6:00pm on Sunday, 15th of December, At Hoyts cinema Joondalup – which, to those keeping track at home, makes this a post-POWA screening event! Hoyts Cinemas isnt too far down the road from the Joondalup Library, but make sure that you know where it is before setting off after POWA.

(Hint: It’s the same location as the old Joondalup Grand Cinema!)

Standard citations apply; POWA cannot guarantee a space in the cinema. If the film is particularly popular and tickets particularly sought after, one may miss out on the screening. We also suggest arriving at the cinema with enough time to sort yourself out – to find the group, organise drinks and snacks, catch up on the lore, the whole lot.

“Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg—a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.”

We hope to see you there!
