Rascal Does Not Dream Double Feature Film Outing, May 10th, 2024

Event Location: Event Cinemas Innaloo

This outing to the cinemas is a little bit different; it’s a double feature!

This POWA Outing was, as always, polled to the POWA Community, and a time and place was picked; this time, we are catching the 6:00pm screening on May 10th at Event Cinemas Innaloo!

This outing has been generously supported by Sugoi Co, who have provided POWA with two Admit 2 passes, meaning that those who arrive first will be able to attend this double feature screening of “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out” and “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid” with only the costs that come associated with the candy bar!

POWA recommends that you arrive early, before the film’s scheduled 6:00pm starting time, to find the group, purchase or organise your tickets, make that trip over to the candy bar for drinks and snacks and in all other ways, prepare. We also need to stress that POWA cannot guarantee seats in the cinema; if you arrive late enough that all the seats are full, there is nothing that can be done – so beat the rush if you are concerned about missing out!

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out

After a draining December, Sakuta is quickly nearing the end of his second year of high school. Since Mai is a third-year student, they don’t have much time left together before graduation rolls around.  Meanwhile, his sister, Kaede, is slowly but steadily venturing outdoors again. Just as she begins to find her footing, she announces her most ambitious goal yet – attending her brother’s high school. Sakuta knows better than anyone how difficult this will be for Kaede, and he’s ready to support her however he can. He’s just not sure what’s best for her…or what she really wants.”

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid

March begins, and there is only one month left in the third term. Sakuta Azusagawa is about to celebrate the graduation of his girlfriend Mai Sakurajima. As he waits for Mai at Shichirigahama beach, an elementary school-aged girl who looks like Mai did when she was a child actress appears in front of him. While reflecting on this mysterious encounter, he receives a phone call from his father. Kaede’s mother never came to terms with what happened to Kaede. Having been hospitalized for so long, their mother finally wants to see her daughter. To fulfill their mother’s wish, Sakuta makes the decision to meet face-to-face–something they haven’t done in a long time. He’s unable to hide his nervousness about all this. Never-before-seen scars begin to appear on Sakuta’s body. Could these be warning signs of a new type of puberty syndrome?”

We hope to see you there!

POWA Screening, 28th April, 2024

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

Back to our regular screening schedule this week after our Second General Meeting and Seasonal Preview the weekend before – thanks to those who came along to those events, by the by!

This week brings us a few things of note – firstly, our line-up has one vote this weekend; our Comedy series My Senpai is Annoying reaches it first vote at episode 4, so POWA members get to have a say in whether or not it stays as one of our screened series.

Secondly, a major notice here; due to a Joondalup Motoring Festival booking out the library the weekend after this screening, and OzComicCon being the weekend after that, POWA will not have screenings on the weekends of 5th of May and 12th of May. This isn’t a hiatus or anything; things have just lined up that way. There will be a film release of the Rascal Does Not Dream franchise over this break – its out on the 9th – so POWA will be making an outing to that during this period, so please keep an eye on our socials for the details about that!

Thirdly and finally, as discussed during the General Meeting last weekend, POWA is reverting the prices of entry to our events back to the level that they were prior to the first General Meeting of 2024 – entry will, once again, be $4 for members, and $5 for non-members. Screening cards will be honoured as they were, at the prices paid at these levels. The price changes on select food and drink items will not change at this point.

So: Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting rooms of the City of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM – and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

We hope to see you there!

This week’s schedule:

1:00 – Doors Open

1:30 – My Senpai is Annoying – Episode 4 (Comedy, Voting!)

2:00 – Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion – Episode 7 (Fantasy)

POWA Spring Seasonal Preview, 21st April, 2024

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

Winter gives way to spring… or at least it does in the northern hemisphere, and as their planetary axial tilt brings warmer days, it also brings them a whole new season of anime!

And this week brings POWA a preview of some of those now airing anime!

Some of the most visible shows this season range from hugely popular sequels to hugely popular franchises, remakes of series from years in the past, a colourful range of new adaptations, new original works and even a few of the seemingly prerequisite fantasy Isekais.

After this screening, too, the seasonal preview continues with POWA’s After Party! Shows that we couldn’t fit in the screenings lineup for whatever reason will get a chance to appear on our screens at home with a continued watchalong, hosted on POWA’s Discord – starting at around 6pm. If you are yet to join POWA’s discord, but want to, you can join the Discord with the following link: discord.gg/jF4A4tn

We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.
