POWA Online General Meeting 1, 27th January, 2024.       

On Saturday, the 27th of January, POWA will be hosting its first General Meeting of the 2024 committee, in our Discord group.

All of POWA’s community are invited to attend this meeting to discuss POWA’s plans for 2024, as well as any topics of interest raised by the community that you want to bring to the discussion.

This General Meeting will start at 3:00pm, and so long as you have joined our Discord, you will have all you need to attend this meeting. Should you like to raise a point of discussion for the meeting, please contact the POWA committee through the POWA Discord group, the POWA Facebook group, POWA’s email at POWAClub@gmail.com, or by letting us know, in person, at POWA’s screening on the 21st on January.

If you have not yet joined our Discord, but want to do so, a link is available at the top of powaclub.com in the “About” field. You will need to create a Discord account prior to joining our Discord group.

The meeting is expected to last, at most, a few hours and will cover a variety of topics, including what events POWA plans to run in 2024.

If you have any questions, concerns or issues attending this meeting, do reach out to POWA using any of the above listed methods.

To those unable to attend the meeting at the time and day, minutes of the meeting will be made available to those who request them after the meeting.

POWA’s seasonal preview, to be held at Joondalup Library, will be held on the 28th of January, meaning this General Meeting will have no anime scheduled.

Screenings

POWA Screening, 21th January, 2024.

That’s right, everyone, POWA is back after our holiday break!

This week brings us two new shows hot off the presses, as it were. A new Drama and a new Mature, Horror & Thriller series, in fact, to replace our outgoing shows Irina: Vampire Cosmonaut and Basilisk, respectively! So, double check your membership is up to date so have a say in our new line-up.

You may notice that there isn’t a new Fantasy vote, though, despite us finishing Astra – Lost in Space at the second-to-last screening last year. That is because voting in three brand new series would simply take too long for a single screening; instead, we will have something else on to bring us up to five shows for the night. Those who were present at the Christmas screening might have an idea as to how that would work – that is, if you’ve not Erased how we picked a series from your mind.

Of note in the coming weeks, though; on the 27th of January, the Saturday after this screening, our first General Meeting of the year will be held. We suggest that all those that are able to join us on Discord do so to have a look at what 2024 will have in store for POWA – more details on time and place to follow soon.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

POWA Year-End Screening, 10th December 2023

After another anime-filled year, it’s time for the final screening of the POWA year!

In the interest of not making the current line-up of shows so awkward – that is, to avoid voting in three new series and then not watching them for weeks over the break – this week’s schedule is even more different than the last.

Since we had a triple length feature to finish off Astra Lost in Space last weekend, this week is going to – in addition to Super Cub (Up for its first vote!) and Trigun – bring us an episode of a mystery anime, as decided by the fairest method of all: A Wheelspin. Don’t worry – it will be something we all, as a community, agreed upon as being among the best anime of POWA’s history.

Furthermore, to end the final screening of 2023, a more relaxed atmosphere to end the night will be the plan. Opening with the old POWA tradition of Pass-The-Parcel, the last part of the night will be left to our own devices; a few board games will be present and you are encouraged to bring some of your own along.

While this is POWA’s last screening of the year, POWA will return in 2024 on January 21st, back at the Joondalup Library.
