POWA Screening, 6th March 2022

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

POWA’s regular weekly screenings continue!

As a reminder: We’ll be sure to keep up with the ongoing COVID situation in WA. As our borders open up and we reach our peak infection levels, rules may affect upcoming POWA screenings and events. Keep an eye on our social media – along with official communications from the WA government, and most importantly STAY SAFE!

Last week, we enjoyed our line-up with no additional voting, new shows or endings! Great batch of shows though – which is why it’s sad to say we’ll be saying goodbye to one of them. ‘Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle’ will be leaving this week, meaning we’ll be looking for a new Comedy show. The second season of ‘Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid’ is also up for its first vote!

POWA is also on the lookout for a new mascot! To learn more and to tell us what would make your PERFECT mascot, view the survey here.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

This Week’s Schedule:
1:00PM – Library Doors Open
1:30PM – Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle – Episode 12 (Comedy, Final Episode)
2:00PM – Ascendance of a Bookworm 2nd Season – Episode 7 (Fantasy)
2:30PM – WorldEnd – Episode 10 (Drama)
3:00PM – Break & Raffle Draw
3:15PM – Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S – Episode 4 (Slice of Life/Romance/Arthouse, Voting)

Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko Movie Outing

Location: Event Cinemas Innaloo
Date: February 28th
Time: 7:00PM

POWA is off to the movies to see a new original comedy-drama from Ayumu Watanabe (Children of the Sea) and STUDIO 4C (Tekkonkinkreet, Mind Game, Animatrix) – Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko.

Our friends at Madman are offering 4 free double passes to POWA members, meaning that essentially 8 people will be seeing the movie for free. We have received the passes, and are ready to hand them out to all POWA community who comes to the event, though they will be strictly first-come, first-serve.

The movie starts at 7:00pm at Event Cinemas Innaloo, but as we cannot book ahead, we cannot guarantee seats in the cinema. Ensure that you arrive early enough to purchase your tickets at the counter so you don’t end up disappointed. This will be a screening in the original Japanese subtitled version.

Movie Synopsis:
“Nikuko is a brash, jolly, scattered, and passionate woman in an otherwise sleepy seaside town in northern Japan. She’s also the single mother of 11-year-old Kikuko, who is her opposite in many ways. Kikuko is a string-bean of a young girl, pensive, quietly curious, and methodical in how she approaches life in this small harbor town.
Nikuko embarrasses Kikuko as any mom of a preteen would, but Nikuko’s bold spirit makes her especially well-known in a town where Kikuko herself wants nothing more than to simply blend in. As Kikuko navigates the everyday social dramas of middle school, enhanced with touches of magical realism from her ever-present imagination, a shocking revelation from the past threatens to uproot the pair’s tender relationship.”
