POWA Screening, 3rd October 2021

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

Last week, we voted to continue watching both ‘The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.’ to its conclusion and ‘In/Spectre’ past its initial four episodes. This week, it’s ‘Planet With’ that’s up for an initial vote. Members will decide if it stays in our line-up!

Also keep in mind that POWA is continuing to do anime watchalongs on Discord, such as our upcoming “Retro Movie and OVA Month”, starting this Saturday.

It’s also important to note that the club’s Committee Year is coming to an end, and thus we’ll be looking for new committee nominations! If you want to lead the club into the New Year, send an expression of interest email to powaclub@gmail.com to get more details. The election for our new Committee will take place on Sunday, October 24th at our AGM held in the Library.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

Retro Movie/OVA Month on POWA’s Discord

Following on from our month-long celebrations of Gundam and Evangelion, POWA is trying something different for the month of October. We’ll be looking at 4 very different movies and OVAs from the mysterious world of the pre-2000s, watching along on our Discord server.

As we’re reaching for a combination of well-regarded classics and lesser-known picks, we’ll be watching from a variety of services, using Metastream to sync up for everyone. As always, it’ll be easy to sync up your own copies of the movies too.

Every watchalong will start at 7pm:

  • – Ghost in the Shell (1995) on Amazon Prime Video – Saturday, October 2nd
    • A cyborg policewoman and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master.
  • – New Dominion: Tank Police (1993) on HiDive – Saturday, October 9th (Ep 1-3) & Saturday, October 23rd (Ep 4-6)
    • The year is 2016. The place is New Port City. The Tank Police are waging a desperate war on crime, and their tactics are highly questionable.
  • – Ruin Explorers (1995) on HiDive – Saturday, October 16th (Ep 1-4)
    • Fam and Ihrie must team up with a rag-tag team of “Ruin Explorers” to find the Ultimate Power and save the world from destruction.
  • – Robot Carnival (1987) on Crunchyroll – Saturday, October 30th
    • A collection of short stories, made by different animators with “robot” as the working title.

POWA’s regular weekly screenings continue!

Last week, we voted to continue watching a clear favourite among our members – the 2019 version of ‘Fruits Basket’. This week, will our long-running Comedy ‘The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.’ fair as well? What about the newly added ‘In/Spectre’, up for its first vote? Come on down to find out, and help decide (if you’re a member that is)!
