Back to POWA!

We hope everyone enjoyed Supernova weekend, although im sure you all bemoaned the lack of screening! No fear, though, for POWA is back this weekend with a regular screening! First, thanks to those who attended last screenings AMV spectacular – if you want the list of videos that POWA screened, it is available on request, either on the Facebook group or on the Discord. Thanks also to those who attended our Nostalgia Box game day this past Friday – our own Games day is soon arriving, so keep an eye and ear out for that!

Last screening saw the Finale of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. As Grimgar was a Fantasy series, the slot now rotates over to a Sci-fi series. This week, POWA members get to vote on the new series – but if you don’t have membership, or it has expired, feel free to purchase it during the screening itself.

Although last screening had only one instance of voting, with our Drama’s Ancient Magus Bride, this week brings a couple more. Both Parasyte: the Maxim and Amagi Brilliant Park reach their second, and in the case of Amagi, final, Vote. Again, membership is required if you want to vote, so make sure you are one!

Last screening also saw the start of our POWA Book Club on the POWA Discord group – Neon Genesis: Evangelion has already stirred up quite a bit of discussion, and its only three episodes in. If you want to join in on the discussion, or play with some of the Bots, join the Discord with this link:

We will be using room 7.101 at ECU Joondalup. Doors will open at 2:30, with our screening to start at 3:00. Drinks, Snack foods and POWA Membership will be available for purchase during the screening.

One of our more requested events over this past year has been an AMV screening spectacular, so this last screening of June is all about the much beloved/hated/tolerated/Nightcored music video format! Over the past weeks POWA has been taking submissions from the community – AMVs that people love, think are interesting, are funny or strange. And now we return them to all attendees for everyone’s (hopeful) viewing pleasure!

Suggestions for AMVs are still open until Thursday! A maximum of five suggestions, per person, can be made in this Google docs form: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-aUjOzI8it6HcKmc6Bh_21OKIdyE_RJjG-vvulPvRZU

So long as the AMV doesn’t spoil a currently airing series and follows our screening rules, feel free to contribute! And, as always, attendees are welcomed to bring any board games, card games or portable consoles to share with the group.

After our AMV event ends, our regular screening will begin! Right off the bat we start with the ending of our Fantasy slot’s “Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash”. While our Fantasy ends and our minds should start thinking about future Sci-Fi series, our Chillout and Action series “K-On” and “Assassination Classroom” passed their second vote – K-On, being a 13 episode series, will be in until its conclusion. Voting this week is solely for our Drama series, The Ancient Magus Bride. Make sure your membership is up to date.

We will be using Room 7.101 at ECU Joondalup. Doors will open at 12:00, with the AMV event to kick off shortly after. After a short transitionary break, our regular screening will start at 3:00. Drinks and Snack foods will be available for purchase during the screening.
