Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko Movie Outing

Location: Event Cinemas Innaloo
Date: February 28th
Time: 7:00PM

POWA is off to the movies to see a new original comedy-drama from Ayumu Watanabe (Children of the Sea) and STUDIO 4C (Tekkonkinkreet, Mind Game, Animatrix) – Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko.

Our friends at Madman are offering 4 free double passes to POWA members, meaning that essentially 8 people will be seeing the movie for free. We have received the passes, and are ready to hand them out to all POWA community who comes to the event, though they will be strictly first-come, first-serve.

The movie starts at 7:00pm at Event Cinemas Innaloo, but as we cannot book ahead, we cannot guarantee seats in the cinema. Ensure that you arrive early enough to purchase your tickets at the counter so you don’t end up disappointed. This will be a screening in the original Japanese subtitled version.

Movie Synopsis:
“Nikuko is a brash, jolly, scattered, and passionate woman in an otherwise sleepy seaside town in northern Japan. She’s also the single mother of 11-year-old Kikuko, who is her opposite in many ways. Kikuko is a string-bean of a young girl, pensive, quietly curious, and methodical in how she approaches life in this small harbor town.
Nikuko embarrasses Kikuko as any mom of a preteen would, but Nikuko’s bold spirit makes her especially well-known in a town where Kikuko herself wants nothing more than to simply blend in. As Kikuko navigates the everyday social dramas of middle school, enhanced with touches of magical realism from her ever-present imagination, a shocking revelation from the past threatens to uproot the pair’s tender relationship.”

POWA Mini Golf Night at Wanneroo Botanic Gardens

POWA will be having our first (non-anime) extracurricular activity of the year, breaking free from the confines of our regular Library meeting room to do something as a community. We hope to continue with such events every few months or so this year!

First up is a round of Night Mini Golf at the Wanneroo Botanic Gardens, this Saturday, February 5th. There’s no need for booking, so just join up with other POWA members around 6pm, with hopes to tee off soon after. Entry is $20 per person.

You can learn more about Mini Golf at Wanneroo Botanic Gardens here.

Please contact a member of the committee if you would like to ask any questions about the event. We’d also like a heads up if you are coming, to make sure no one gets left behind.
