POWA Movie Outing – Promare, Oct 26th 2019

Location: Event Cinemas Innaloo

POWA is back to the cinemas again to see the newest creation from Studio Trigger – the creators of series such as “Kill la Kill” and “SSSS.Gridman” – their standalone film “Promare”.

The date and time was put to a poll, and POWA voted to see the film – Subbed – at Event Cinemas Innaloo on October 26th, and the 6:45PM session. We ask that you arrive early enough to buy tickets ahead of time, as POWA cannot guarantee seats will be available for late arrivals.

“Thirty years has passed since the appearance of the Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves Mad Burnish appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team Burning Rescue, and Lio Fotia, the leader of Mad Burnish begins.”

We hope to see you there!

POWA Anime Club Annual General Meeting 2019, 20th October

Location: ECU Joondalup Room 7.101

POWA’s committee comes to its last week of being in office for the 2018/2019 POWA Season, so the POWA committee meet at ECU Joondalup to, one last time, go over what had occurred over the last 12 months and say goodbye to their jobs.

Immediately following the various reports and recaps, the new POWA Committee will be voted upon by the POWA Membership population. This new committee, which will lead the club during the last of 2019 and for most of 2020, will be selected only by Active POWA Members.

This means that only active members of POWA, with an up-to-date card, will be able to attend this meeting. If you do not have a valid membership card, please contact POWA ahead of the meeting on Sunday to have one arranged for you when you enter the room.

We welcome any and all questions from the attending members during any state of this process – if you have queries about how the club was run in the last 12 months, time is arranged for questions and answers throughout the night about nearly every topic – including the new Committee election.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, but have something that you want mentioned at the meeting, please get in contact with the POWA Committee some time in advance, and we will open the topic to discussion even if you are not there. However, we do not allow Proxy voting, so if you want to have a say in the new Committees appointment, you must be in attendance.

The order which we plan to run the meeting roughly follows –

– What happened since our last meeting
– The President’s personal report of the last year
– The Treasurers personal report of the last year
– Anything else of mention of the last year
– An open forum, where we discuss the last year with attendees
– New Committee nominations, Question and Answers, and Voting
– Dinner Break, new Committee discusses in private their jobs and Goals
– Farewell of old Committee, and the introduction of the new Committee

If time allows after the above events, which may all take up several hours of time, we will screen some Anime to cap off the night.
Doors will open for this event at 12, Midday, on the 20th. We hope to start the meeting at about 12:30, but cannot say for sure how long the meeting may run – however, the night itself will end at 7PM, as is standard. So, too, is our standard location of room B7.101 at ECU Joondalup being used.

This event will be a FREE event, and no entry is required – although we will not be offering a Raffle prize for the meeting.

Drinks, Snacks and Membership will, as always, be available for purchase during the screening.

We hope to see you there!

POWA Double Movie Feature – Makoto Shinkai films, 12 October 2019.

Location: Building 3, room 201, ECU Mt Lawley

POWA Meets at ECU Mt Lawley to screen not one, but two short films by loved anime film director Makoto Shinkai – his 2007 film “5 Centimetres per Second” and his 2013 film “The Garden of Words”.

This free screening will be taking place in room 3.201 at ECU in Mt Lawley – not our usual screening location in Joondalup – with our doors opening at 6:30PM, and the screening to start at about 7PM. Both films are just about an hour in length each, so we expect the screening to have finished by approximately 9PM. Our usual selection of Drinks and Snacks will be available for purchase, as well as an opportunity to buy POWA Membership at a discounted $5 price.

“5 Centimetres Per Second is a tale of two people, Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari, who were close friends but gradually grow farther and farther apart as time moves on. They become separated because of their families yet continue to exchange contact in the form of letters. Yet as time continues to trudge on, their contact with one another begins to cease. Years pass and the rift between them grows ever larger. However, Takaki remembers the times they have shared together, but as life continues to unfold for him, he wonders if he would be given the chance to meet Akari again.”

“The Garden of Words is about Takao, a high school student who dreams of becoming a shoe designer, who decides to skip school one day in favour of sketching in a rainy garden. He has no idea how much his life will change when he encounters Yukino – who seems adrift in the world. Despite the difference in their ages, they strike up an unusual relationship that continues and evolves, with random meetings in the same garden on each rainy day.”

We hope to see you there!
