POWA’s back with another look at anime currently airing in Japan!

This week we’ll be taking a break from our regular line-up to experience some seasonal anime. We’ll be previewing five brand new shows from the Spring 2023 anime season.

This season is stacked with wholesome rom-coms, popular sequels and some big surprises. It’s the perfect time to check out POWA while seeing the highs and lows of the season. What will you be watching?

We’ll continue the fun on our Discord server in a post-screening after-party, with watchalongs for shows that we couldn’t get to in the screening.

Last week we held our first AMV spectacular at the Joondalup Library and our first in two years! It was a fun time with some great edits and song selections. We look forward to doing it again sometime next year. We also began trialling an extended break from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. To allow for more discussion and other activities.

On our Discord, we’ll be holding our second quarterly General Meeting of 2023 the day before this screening. Any members interested in the running of the club, future plans and events should join the Discord chat room set up for Saturday, April 29th at 3PM. Please contact a Committee member if you would like to know more about this process.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

POWA’s weekly screenings continue with an exciting AMV spectacular!

This week we have our regular lineup, extended break and a special AMV showing. We’ll be watching a whole bunch of AMVs as submitted by our community. This is our first AMV screening since March 2021, and our first at the Joondalup Library.

This week we will also be voting in a new Action show, which show will come out on top? Submissions are still open for new Action and AMV suggestions until Thursday, April 20th at 6PM. So there’s still time to submit high quality art edits, memes or edgy Naruto AMVs.

Last week we voted on three shows. Fruits Basket, Kanon and Claymore. Which all remained in our lineup. We also watched the final episodes of Comic Girls and Hinomaru Sumo. Which brought about changes to our lineup.

After the conclusion of Comic Girls last week, POWAs committee decided to change the lineup by dropping down to five shows instead of the regular six. This would give us more more opportunities for discussion and other activities. This will be a month long trial to gauge community feedback. The Comedy slot which was separate is now alternating with the Slice of Life/Romance slot. The Sports/Games slot is now rotating to Action with the voting of our new show.
