Location: Beaumaris Community Centre

POWA continues its absolutely on-schedule quarterly games days with something of a scene change for POWA in recent years in this Tabletop RPGs Day!

POWA has run events with Tabletop RPGs before, but they’ve always been a part of another event – a POWAthon or general board games day – and those always felt like they were cut short. So, instead, we are doing a focused event.

There are going to be three different games on offer for attendees to enjoy – and they are listed below, but first, the scheduling and such.

Most notably, this event is not being hosted at our regular space. We have booked the Beaumaris Community Centre, a larger space that offers broader booking times, for this event. It’s located not much further down the road from the Joondalup Library, but please double check your route before leaving and ending up at the wrong place.

Secondly, this is a Saturday event, run on the 20th, Midday to late. How late? Well, we have the room booked till 10pm, but we don’t really expect games to still be running at that time, we just grabbed more time just in case. As for when the games actually start, we would hope to have them running by 1pm – but that is really up to the whims of setup times and the volunteer Game Masters themselves.

Finally, there will be no cost of entry to this event – it will be free, though to save us the effort of having to watch it, there will be no entry table, shop or raffle on offer. Thankfully, the location is located in the same complex as an IGA, Kebab shop, and Fish and Chips joint, so breaks to go grab a snack are going to be nice and easy.

Also, since people keep asking me, there is no minimum age requirement for this event – young attendees are welcomed, as are everyone’s friends and families.

We hope to see you there!

The Games:

Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion

Hosted by Leigh

A fantasy world of adventure in which players will play through premade scenarios as one of a selection of characters, each unique and with their own abilities. Kill monsters, dodge traps, loot bodies and work together. A more tactical game than a roleplaying game. Recommended for people who don’t want to have to roleplay a character.

Root: The Roleplaying Game

Hosted by Drago

Players take the role of a wandering woodland creature adventurer, wandering from clearing to clearing and taking on small jobs to earn their living. Players decide on how to interact with the world – sneaking, fighting, negotiating – and letting dice and the scenario determine your successes and failures. Recommended for people who want to roleplay heavily in a freeform, fantastical adventure.

Alien: The Roleplaying Game

Hosted by Glen

Explore abandoned colonies, derelict space stations and infested ships, fixing broken systems, tracking down missing corporate suits and fighting – or fleeing – whatever might be the cause of the situation. Slow tension can lead to sudden explosions of action, and it is quite possible not all of you make it out alive… or are on your side. Recommended for people who can roleplay at least a little bit, enjoy sudden dramatic entrances, tough encounters and the dice deciding your fate.
