POWA Screening, 20th March 2022

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

POWA’s regular weekly screenings continue!

As a reminder: We’ll be sure to keep up with the ongoing COVID situation in WA. As our borders open up and we reach our peak infection levels, rules may affect upcoming POWA screenings and events. Keep an eye on our social media – along with official communications from the WA government, and most importantly STAY SAFE!

Last week, we voted in a brand Comedy series with yet another isekai addition to our line-up – ‘My Next Life as a Villainess’! We also voted to keep watching ‘Vivy’ and ‘Ascendance of a Bookworm’. This week, the voting will be on ‘Kaiji’s’ shoulders. Will he be able to carry the burden? Finally, the last episode of ‘WorldEnd’ will be screening this week, so it’s time to start thinking of which Cultural/Historical show will replace it!

POWA is also working on a collaborative project! The POWA “Fanzine” will compile articles, essays, reviews, creative writing, art and everything in between into a published magazine. Interested in joining in? Learn more here.

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests. However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting room, of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

This Week’s Schedule:
1:00PM – Library Doors Open
1:30PM – Ascendance of a Bookworm 2nd Season – Episode 9 (Fantasy)
2:00PM – My Next Life as a Villainess – Episode 2 (Comedy)
2:30PM – WorldEnd – Episode 12 (Drama, Final Episode)
3:00PM – Voting for new Comedy, break & raffle draw
3:15PM – Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S – Episode 6 (Slice of Life/Romance/Arthouse)
3:45PM – Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song – Episode 9 (Mature/Horror/Thriller)

Location: Event Cinemas Whitford

Time: 6:45PM

POWA is off to the movies to see the predecessor/prequel to the hit Shonen Jump action series ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’!
Our friends at Madman are offering 2x Free Double Passes and 5x Buy One, Get One Free Passes to POWA members! We have received the passes, and they will be strictly first-come, first-serve – with priority to the Free Double Passes. Meaning the first four people at the event will get in free!

The movie starts at 6:45pm at Event Cinemas Whitford, but as we cannot book ahead, we cannot guarantee seats in the cinema. Ensure that you arrive early enough to purchase your tickets at the counter so you don’t end up disappointed. This will be a screening in the original Japanese subtitled version.

Movie Synopsis:
“Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem—his childhood friend Rika has turned into a Curse and won’t leave him alone. Since Rika is no ordinary Curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn how to combat Curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough in time to confront the Curse that haunts him?”

POWA Fanzine Project

POWA is working on a big collaborative project, open to all members of the community!

We are looking for articles, reviews, essays, short stories, art and everything in between – anything related to our love and passion for anime, otaku or general fandom culture. We’re hoping to compile the various efforts by the community into a regular magazine, published both online and in print.

It will be a great way to share with other members of the community, stretch creative and analytical muscles and create a time capsule of the year each volume is published. All content will be wholly owned by its creators and they will be credited however they choose to be.

The POWA Committee will serve as editors for the project and will work with members to finalise every idea brought to us. Exact plans for the length and format will be decided as community members bring forward content.

Discussion of ideas, suggestions and progress on Fanzine content will be ongoing in the #powa-creates room of our Discord server. We welcome all ideas and content, provided it fits within POWA’s content guidelines!

Below is an example of what a fanzine from POWA could look like, including ideas for content the community could offer. Please note that neither the layout of the magazine itself nor the article example inside is necessarily representative of the final version.
