Upcoming POWA film outing: “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye”!

The sequel season to the hit anime “Dan Da Dan” comes out next season – and as is the fashion these days, a supercut preview of the first few episodes (Specifically, the first three) is on its way to Australian cinemas, courtesy of our friends at SugoiCo!

From June 6th the film will be appearing in cinemas, and POWA needs the community to pick a time and place for our outing! SugoiCo is even being really really good friends of POWA and is offering us a couple of Admit 2 passes for our community to use!

If you are intested in having a say on what time and place we do pick, there is currently a poll available on our Facebook group. Head there and have a vote, why dont you?

“DAN DA DAN follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult geek. In this new arc, Momo and Okarun set out on their latest adventure, traveling to a hot springs town home rented by Jiji, Momo’s childhood friend and former crush, with the goal to solve the mystery surrounding his family. When they arrive, strange locals derail their investigation before it can properly begin, and the group soon learns there’s more lurking under the surface of the town than they could possibly have imagined.”

POWA Online “Runners-up” Screening, May 11th, 2025

This Screening is an online screening. POWA will not be screening in person at any location this weekend. POWA will return to our physical screening location at the Joondalup Library on the 18th of May.

As POWA is taking Mothers Day weekend off, we’ve got something of a scaled-back screening for those who just need that weekly anime.

Online, on POWA’s discord, 6:30pm Sunday May 11th, we are hosting what we are calling the “Runners-Up” special screening!

POWA is proud of its democratically chosen anime traditions, but there is no secret that for every show that “Wins” a vote, there are a bunch of shows that don’t quite make it. This screening is for them!

From our last six votes for new series, there have been seven shows that just barely didn’t make the cut – that is, five “Second Places” and one tie of two shows – and it’s these that get their own full length preview this weekend.

There is one notable thing we want to say about the shows at this screening, though: us watching these shows will not enter these shows into the “POWA Canon”, as it were. That is, they won’t go on our MyAnimeList profile as “Watched”, and these shows can (and probably will) reappear at future POWA votes.

As this screening is held on our Discord group, one will need to have an active discord account. Other things, like an electronic device to install discord on, and access to the internet, as well as perhaps a fondness for anime, are all heavily recommended. You do not need to have a microphone to join in on the jolly banter that usually occurs during our online screenings, but if you would like to participate it would make it easier.

Each of the shows screened are available on Crunchyroll, and may even be watchable as many first episodes of anime on Crunchyroll are free. However, the screening will also be screen-shared, allowing people to watch the anime entirely, or perhaps just use it to sync up their own streams.

We Hope to see you there!

This screening’s schedule:

6:30 – Mashle – Magic and Muscles (Tied Comedy Runner-up, 23rd February)

7:00 – D-frag! (Tied Comedy Runner-up, 23rd February)

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuux -The Beginning- Film outing, March 1st 2025

Event Location: Event Cinemas Innaloo

This time POWA is off to see an Animated film in the cinema, with the newest entry in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” franchise, “GQuuuuuux -The Beginning-”

Poll has been run and a time has been rather solidly chosen – we are on for a session at 4:15pm, Saturday March 1st, at Event Cinemas Innaloo.

Here’s a short summary provided by the distributor, our friends, SugoiCo:

“Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.

Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.

Now their world is about to enter a new era.”

And a further note, also provided by SugoiCo:

“The first-ever major collaboration between studio khara, the studio behind the EVANGELION Series, and SUNRISE, the historic home to the Mobile Suit Gundam animated works, brings together an all-star creative team for a groundbreaking new entry to the Gundam universe. Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki (FLCL), with a screenplay co-written by legendary screenwriter Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena) and acclaimed filmmaker Hideaki Anno (EVANGELION Series), Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- is a stunning visual feast that will captivate fans, both old and new.”

And a FINAL note, to also be provided by SugoiCo… two Admit x2 passes! Make sure your POWA membership is up to date, and rock up to the film on time, and have a chance to win one of the tickets!

Standard citations for the film outing apply; POWA cannot guarantee a spot in the cinema. If the film’s room is booked out, then you might miss out. If you are worried about the availability of seats, the earlier you show up the better your chances are – and you can always purchase a ticket online ahead of time. We also ask that everyone arrive early enough to do everything that needs to be done before the film starts – that is, time to find the group, organise your tickets, purchase snacks and drinks, heed the call of nature, all of it – if you show up late, we may well have moved into the cinema without you!

We hope to see you there!
