Our screenings open at 1PM and run to 5PM at Joondalup Library, Meeting Room 1/2 every Sunday (unless otherwise specified) and our schedule includes exciting series from various genres.

All of the shows we screen are screened in their original – usually Japanese – language with English subtitling.

We are a democratic bunch at POWA. Every fourth episode we vote on keeping a series in our lineup. If it’s voted out, the following week enables us to vote for a show to replace it.

POWA Screening, 10th August, 2025

Location: Joondalup Library, Upstairs Meeting Room

Busy week in a busy month for POWA; this weekend’s screening takes place the day after POWA’s board game day on the 9th. If you’re reading this and not aware that POWA is doing double events this weekend, the event and details for the board game day can be found everywhere POWA posts its information!

Furthermore, POWA is attending Evolve this month! If you are interested in volunteering for POWA, you need to write into one of the Committee – send us an email, message us on our socials, that kinda thing. We need your nomination in writing!

But this event in particular…

Well, last screening we reached the finale episode of our Scifi series, “ID:Invaded” – and while that news isnt strictly ‘this event in particular’, its new Fantasy replacement will be! And while we are all sitting there wondering what Final pick our Fantasy will be, perhaps it’s time to start thinking of the replacement for our Comedy, “Kakushigoto” – because that reaches its finale this weekend as well!

And, to round it all off, Vinland Saga reaches its 16th episode this weekend – so its time for a show of hands on whether or not to keep on with the most cheery of our shows in our lineup!

Entry for our weekly screenings is $4 for members and $5 for guests – However, your first time is free! Every entry prior to our break receives a raffle ticket for a weekly prize. We will be in the upstairs meeting rooms of the City of Joondalup Library. Our doors will open at the same time as the library – 1:00PM – and we will start screening at 1:30PM, leaving you time to find the room and settle down with some drinks and snacks.

POWA decided that it was time for something new in our lineup last week – since SpyxFamily left our schedule, POWA Voted on a new Action & Sports series, this time deciding on the Historically inspired dodge-em-up Samurai series “The Elusive Samurai”!

Furthermore, there was some other series up for vote last week, as well – our newest show, the Drama “Bartender: The Glass of God” reached its first vote, and our Scifi series reached its final – Though, unlike the Action & Sports series, POWA decided that we would continue both of these shows instead!

And that’s the sum of it – no voting this week for anything, though our Comedy does look like it will be ending soon, as well.

POWA Board Games Day, 9th August, 2025

Location: Joondalup Library, Ground Floor Meeting Room

POWAs constantly delayed and oft promised Board Games Day is happening!

No, really, this time for sure.

Starting at doors open, 9:30pm, at Joondalup Library on Saturday the 9th (Yes, Saturday, not Sunday) – in the downstairs meeting room (which is not the upstairs meeting rooms, hope you’re all keeping track) and hoping to play board games until the Librarians start to get upset with us/make us leave at library close (which is 4:00pm.)

So, POWA invites all those who are interested or know someone who is interested in board games to show up at the Library for a day of card flipping and dice rolling! 

As the inaugural event of this very-definitely-quarterly-we-swear event, this board games day will be a free-for-all event. That is to say, if you’ve got a board game to play, bring it along!

There won’t be any overarching theme beyond those words – “Board Game” – so if you got something you reckon fits that bill, it fits that bill.

If you are planning on bringing a game that is a liiiiitle bit more complex than what could be explained to a group of people who are only paying half attention at the time, we do recommend you get word out beforehand – let people know that you’re planning a board game from hell, maybe link a few youtube tutorials, that kind of thing. 

Entry to this event will be free. POWA will also not be selling food or drink at this event – while the library does offer water bubblers and have vending machines, if you seek something a bit more tasty or filling, feel free to run for lunch!

Finally, do note that POWA’s screening for the weekend – on the 10th – will still run, so those who think that their weekends simply don’t have enough POWA will finally learn that there can be too much POWA. Or still not enough. Up to you.
