Another Important Announcement (POWA & the Coronavirus)

It is with great sadness that, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic POWA is once again forced into a hiatus, effective immediately.

Due to Edith Cowan University’s decisive and understandable decision to prohibit all non-essential events on campus grounds for the rest of the academic semester, POWA will not be able to screen our regular events there, including our planned return from hiatus on March 29th.

Due to recent national level policies and procedures involving the Coronavirus, the possibility of finding another place to screen seems slim, and with the safety of our members in mind, probably should not happen anyway. Combined with this, cinemas and other gathering places across the country are suspending their own events and closing, meaning the physical presence of the club will need to take a back seat for the coming months.

To help keep the community going, the committee is currently exploring ways to bolster our online presence, especially in our community Discord server. Our ongoing Ghibli-Thon and Going Home Club will be joined by other online anime watchalongs and community events. Details of our plans will be posted as soon as they are confirmed.

During this period, we hope that all members of the community, new and old will be able to participate and create their own events, such as the video game nights and streams already happening on our Discord. POWA has built a great community over the years, and we hope to see it continue to flourish, as a way to support each other in this troubling time.

Most of all though, we urge our community to stay safe. While rules and laws can stop the spread of coronavirus on wider scales, individual action can go a long way. Wash your hands, practice social distancing and follow other recommendations by experts.
