POWA Screening, 18th August 2019

Location: ECU Joondalup Room 7.101

After what seems like an age, we finally got back into our regular screening schedule and POWA Welcomed the new Chill Out series, Laid-Back Camp, to our line-up. Full of Warm, Fuzzy, Winter-Camping cheer, it seems like a good choice to chase away the last of our own winter.

Last week had some continuation voting, too – Princess Principal, our Sci-Fi, and Ancient Magus Bride, our Drama, had their first and second votes respectively and both will be continuing in our line up.

This week to come brings us the third vote for our Mature slots Parasyte: The Maxim, and the very final episode of our Comedy series, Amagi Brilliant Park. For those who want to suggest a Comedy series, start taking down ideas because a suggestion thread will become available within this week. Remember, though, if you want to cast a vote on Parasyte: The Maxim, or any of our screened series, POWA Membership is required. Make sure yours is up to date, and if it has expired, or you wish to purchase it for the first time, please do so at the screening.

POWA has several upcoming events in our immediate future which require frequent updates on their own, so make sure that you keep an eye on our Facebook group so as to not miss the comedy suggestion thread – or bypass the issue entirely and submit your Comedy suggestions, at any time, via the suggestion form on the POWAClub website.

We will be using Room 7.101 at ECU Joondalup. Doors will open at 2:30, with the screening itself to start at 3:00. Drinks, Snack foods, POWA Membership and Signups for our upcoming Come-To-POWA-Early Tabletop RPG event, held on the last screening of this month, will be available throughout the night.

We hope to see you there!

POWA-Thon – 21st September, 2019

Ten Years of POWA, Ten Genres, Ten Hours of Anime.

It’s been ten years since POWA first formed and started watching anime, and in another of our ten year events, we are inviting everyone down to a marathon screening of anime!

POWA has, over its years, changed a lot of its screened genres – we used to have slots for Mecha series, Sports series, Art House series, and several more. As genres came in to and fell out of fashion, some genres fell by the wayside and have become fond memories.

POWA has too, over the years, overlooked several key genres in anime – Romance series, Seinen series and the like – Genres which, for many anime fans, are central to their enjoyment of the medium.

POWA-Thon is bringing these genres into the limelight – we are casting off our tried and true central genres and bringing two episodes, each, of ten genres, old and new.

A total of twenty episodes of anime! This event is, truly, a marathon. But that’s not all – Games, events, challenges and sausage sizzles will be running through the entire event, as well as a new and engaging method of just what shows will be picked for viewing during the day.

Make sure you keep an eye on the POWAClub website and Facebook group in the coming weeks, as more and more details will be coming out about what genres we are going to be watching, the schedule and ordering of the genres, what games and events will be on offer, as well as threads asking you, the public, on what shows you would like to watch.

We hope to see you there!

Its important to keep an eye on the Facebook page for this event, here. Important updates and threads will be appearing on both the website and the Facebook page!

Weathering With You – POWA Movie Outing, 23rd August 2019

Location: Grand Cinemas Joondalup

Probably the biggest anime movie event of the year, “Weathering With You”, is arriving in Perth Cinemas, and POWA is off to the silver screens to catch it. From famous director Makoto Shinkai, director of films such as “Your Name” and “The Garden Of Words”, this film is very likely to be one of the biggest anime films yet.

We will be meeting up at Grand Cinemas Joondalup to catch the 7:15PM Session.

POWA is going to have several cheap or deal passes available to us for the screening, but note that these are not guaranteed tickets – ensure that you arrive early enough to buy a place in what may be an extremely busy screening. Respond, on Facebook, to this event with “Going”, and keep your eyes on your Facebook feed for updates and news.

We hope to see you there!

“The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits.

The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner.

This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…”
